Using the National Cancer Database (NCDB), this retrospective observational study sought to identify the incidence of preoperative biopsy and describe factors and survival outcomes associated with preoperative biopsy for non-metastatic, resectable RPS. The authors found that preoperative biopsy is still performed in a minority of patients. Furthermore, they found that preoperative biopsy does not appear to negatively impact survival, but may indirectly improve survival outcomes in select patients with RPS by facilitating neoadjuvant therapy and attainment of complete tumor resection.
